Clifford Julius Sager
Introduction
Clifford Julius Sager, M.D., was born in 1916 and died at 88 years old on August 13, 2005, in Southampton, New York. He was an accomplished psychiatrist and early pioneer in the field of couple therapy and treatment of stepfamilies. He has contributed to scientific literature by authoring more than 90 articles and chapters in the field of psychology. Sager’s methods and developments have been derived from psychoanalytic, behavioral and general systems theories.
Education and Career
Cliff Sager grew up in New York and, by age 12, knew that he aspired to be psychiatrist. Sager graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1937 and went on to complete his medical degree at New York University School of Medicine in 1941. In addition to maintaining a private practice in New York City, Sager was a professor of clinical psychiatry and attending psychiatrist at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York from 1971 to 1980.
