Abstract

Jean de Champaignac was one of a number of erudite magistrates who, in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth century, undertook the popularization of Aristotelian philosophy for an elite readership unwilling to read in Latin. While his ideas were not the most original (his work is mainly compilation), he is the author of the first French Physique and Sommaire des Quatre Parties de la Philosophie, bringing together the four branches of Scholastic philosophy.
