Abstract

Benito Pereira, S.J., was a Spanish Jesuit philosopher who lived during the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. While still in his teens, Pereira joined the Society of Jesus, for which religious order he would hold a number of educational responsibilities. After helping to establish a college in San Pablo, Spain, Pereira left for Italy. He eventually found his way to the Jesuit Collegium Romanum where he held a chair teaching scripture. In addition to his several scripture commentaries, Pereira also authored the De communibus omnium rerum naturalium principium, which, like many of the cursus at the time, was expansive in scope and detail. The Jesuit died in Rome in 1610.
