Abstract

After a vertebral compression fracture, kyphoplasty is increasingly used to stabilize the fracture, reduce pain, restore the vertebral body height, and avoid subsequent morbidity. Bone SPECT/CT helps determine the culprit vertebra and confirm the recent nature of the compression fracture. After kyphoplasty, CT contributes to assessing complications in the treated and adjacent vertebral level, including PMMA-cement leakage or loosening and secondary vertebral fractures. In this chapter, the bone SPECT/CT findings are discussed in a patient with recurrent pain 6 years after kyphoplasty for a traumatic vertebral compression fracture.
