Abstract

Facet joint arthropathy is a cause of localized low back pain that can radiate to the buttocks and groins but is often difficult to isolate. Bone SPECT/CT is an important imaging modality to identify sites of active facet joint arthropathy that can guide patient selection for targeted intervention. Changes in the facet joint identified on CT show poor correlation with uptake on SPECT, indicating that both modalities provide distinct information on the degenerative process. The concepts of assessing facet joints on bone SPECT/CT are illustrated in this chapter.
