Clinical Atlas of Bone SPECT/CT

Abstract

The prevalence and intensity of radiotracer uptake in asymptomatic wrists are significantly lower compared to symptomatic wrists. The tracer uptake in the asymptomatic wrists is mainly due to osteoarthritis and mechanical overload; the other causes are trauma and normal variations. The radiotracer uptake is predominantly in the late phase of bone scintigraphy. In general, radionuclide bone imaging is more sensitive in detecting asymptomatic dormant pathologies compared to radiography. This chapter discusses the role of bone SPECT/CT in evaluating asymptomatic hand and wrist.
