Foot and Ankle: SPECT/CT Arthrography

Abstract

SPECT/CT arthrography or arthro-SPECT/CT is an imaging technique that combines the information about cartilage defects and ligament tears as assessed by CT arthrography with the visualization of the associated bony stress at the subchondral bone plate by SPECT imaging. In the foot and ankle, SPECT/CT arthrography may aid in the assessment of cartilage and osteochondral defects, intra-articular loose bodies, ligament injuries, and osteoarthritis and may serve as a valuable alternative to MRI arthrography, especially in patients with contraindications to MRI imaging or in the presence of metallic hardware.
