Abstract
Tarsal coalition is an aberrant fibrous, cartilaginous, or osseous union between two or more tarsal bones, arising in the course of bony development. The two most prevalent types are talocalcaneal and calcaneonavicular coalitions, making up to 90% of all tarsal coalitions. While the majority of coalitions remain asymptomatic, a subset of affected people will typically present with hindfoot pain and stiffness, often presenting itself after an inciting event as an ankle injury. In this chapter, we review the clinical and imaging features of talocalcaneal and calcaneonavicular coalitions by presenting some typical cases.
