Abstract

Over the last two decades, bone SPECT/CT has become the backbone of skeletal imaging in nuclear medicine. Combining the superb sensitivity of traditional bone scintigraphy with the anatomic detail of CT imaging has significantly increased the diagnostic accuracy and reader confidence. This holds especially true for the imaging of smaller bones and joints and in the presence of frequent anatomical variations, which are both present in the foot and ankle region.

In this chapter, we will elaborate on the optimal SPECT and CT acquisition and reconstruction methods as well as useful patient positioning techniques and immobilization devices used in foot and ankle imaging.
