Abstract

Total hip arthroplasty is one of the most frequently performed surgical procedures, and osteoarthritis is the underlying reason for THA. Cementless prostheses are popular due to their reduced technical complexity and operating time and enhance implant survival in younger patients. Many different cementless femoral stem designs exist, and each type is characterized by a particular crucial fixation zone with the host bone. The fixation location may impact tracer uptake on bone SPECT/CT imaging, and a good understanding is essential for correct interpretation. This chapter summarizes the different hip replacement designs and discusses the fixation zones and tracer uptake localization schemes that can improve the reporting of bone SPECT/CT of hip replacements.
