Clinical Atlas of Bone SPECT/CT

Abstract

Groin pain is common in athletes, and inflammation of the proximal adductor longus insertion on the pubic bone is a frequent cause. Adductor enthesopathy is usually caused by repetitive strain injury, and a proximal involvement causes inner thigh pain that radiates inferiorly and worsens with stretching against resistance or sports. Another frequent condition is hamstring enthesopathy, and patients typically experience pain in the lower buttock. Ultrasound and MRI are the preferred imaging modalities to diagnose enthesopathies, but bone SPECT/CT can be used as an adjunct imaging modality, as multiple conditions may coexist. This chapter presents multiple cases where bone SPECT/CT was performed because of groin or buttock pain and revealed enthesopathies.
