Clinical Atlas of Bone SPECT/CT

Abstract

Carpal fractures are more common than reported due to the reliance on plain film radiography and the degree of overlap of the eight carpal bones. SPECT/CT imaging allows the earlier diagnosis of fractures, particularly of the scaphoid, and helps to evaluate the possibility of bone bruising rather than frank cortical fracture. It is also capable of demonstrating significant soft tissue injuries/inflammation in the tendons of the wrist and unexpected findings such as occult fractures.
