Clinical Atlas of Bone SPECT/CT

Abstract

A 40-year-old amateur weight lifter and runner had a weight-lifting injury which led to neck and shoulder pain. Plain film of the cervical spine was unremarkable. Bone scintigraphy demonstrated intervertebral disk and left uncovertebral joint uptake at C5/C6 without evidence of fracture. Exacerbation of occult degenerative disease is a poorly recognized cause of sporting injury, particularly at a common site of symptoms such as the cervical or lower lumbar spine.
