Abstract

A 26-year-old water skier presented with the acute onset of lower thoracic back pain after a fall during a ski jump. Plain film described possible compression fracture of L1. SPECT/CT showed acute intraosseous disc herniation. This condition should be distinguished from a compression fracture, osteoporotic insufficiency fracture, and injury to the ring apophysis of the vertebral body.
