Abstract

Fibrous dysplasia is more common than expected and is invariably detected incidentally. It is frequently monostotic but may be polyostotic. It is characterized by replacement of mature bone by an immature matrix of dysplastic fibrous tissue which is structurally weak and prone to complications. It often demonstrates intense increase in uptake on scintigraphy.
