Incidental Benign Skeletal Lesions: Enchondroma

Abstract

Enchondromas are the second most common benign dysplastic lesion of cartilage and are usually detected incidentally. These are generally located in the metaphysis in short tubular bones and the humerus and femur. Occurrence of acute pain should raise the possibility of stress fracture at these sites. Chronic progressive pain of long standing suggests malignant transformation into chondrosarcoma.
