Abstract

With the fusion of a lumbar spine motion segment, the forces transmitted on the remaining segments during daily activities increase, resulting in an accelerated degenerative process at these levels. This process is known as adjacent segment degeneration (ASD) and can result in facet joint arthropathy, intervertebral disc degeneration, or sacroiliac joint degeneration. This chapter discusses and illustrates the relevant findings on bone SPECT/CT using case material.
