Abstract

The failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS) is defined as lumbar spinal pain of unknown origin either persisting despite surgical intervention or appearing after surgical intervention for spinal pain originally in the same topographical location. Importantly, mechanical, functional, and psychological factors can contribute to the FBSS syndrome. The role of bone SPECT/CT in patients with suspected FBSS is to rule out the presence of actionable pain generators that could be amenable to targeted treatment.
