Definition
Health inequality is a complex mix of in-work poverty, unemployment, malnutrition, toxic working conditions, lack of social support, unhealthy lifestyles, and status, which undermines the integrity of health policies in each country. No sector in society or active citizenship can ignore responsibility for the promotion of health and social development. The workplace has been established as a fundamental location for health promotion since it directly influences the economic and social well-being of its workers, their physical and psychological health, and the health of their immediate families and communities. Safe workplaces contribute to sustainable development by promoting health through a correct lifestyle at work encouraging personal skills and professional development. It also provides the infrastructure and environment to support the promotion of health to a broad audience.
