Definition
Mindfulness in Won Buddhism needs to be regarded in the context of practice that cultivates concentration and non-dual awareness during times of rest and quietude, which then supports actions in daily life where mindfulness may be better described as heedfulness due to aspects related to guarding one’s mind and fostering ethical behavior that it informed through relevant insights.

Attempts to understand the concept of mindfulness across religious traditions typically requires transgressing linguistic borders, which inevitably raises discussions on translation and equivalence of terms. The modern usage of the terms mindfulness in English and Achtsamkeit in German can be traced back to translations of the Pali word sati (Gethin, 2011; Krägeloh et al., 2019).
