Abstract
Digital technologies can be either as an essential facilitator and divider of social inclusion in the information society. They promote social inclusion by allowing for the delivery of real-time services that can enable individuals to learn, work, and live without being subject to physical or social barriers. Meanwhile, there is increasing concern about digital inclusion that individuals of disadvantaged groups can have access to, and skills to use digital technologies. The rapid digitalization of people’s lives, including work, education, and social life, has given opportunities and challenges to digital inclusion. Despite its increasing importance for sustainable economy and society, there is a few semantic structuring of the links between digital technologies and social inclusion. This chapter presents a conceptual framework for key dimensions of digital inclusion as well as examines the relationship between digital technologies and social inclusion. The proposed framework acts as a tool for assessing digital inclusive needs and reflecting social inclusion in the digital age.
