Albert Bandura, one of the most important psychologists in the field, was the creator of the Social Learning Theory. This theory proposes that people’s behaviors can be learned socially, by observing, imitating, and modeling such behaviors. By social modeling of aggressive behaviors, people come to see violence as a functional and viable means to use, making Bandura’s work a relevant effort to understand the learning of phenomena linked to violence.
Bandura’s Life and Work
Born in Mundare, Canada, Albert Bandura was the youngest of seven siblings in a family formed by his immigrant father and mother, from Poland and Ukraine, respectively. In Bandura’s own words, his hard life on a farm made him live his own constructionism, which he called a “vital way of life” (Bandura, 2006).
