Abstract
Conflicts of interest in biomedical research present ethical challenges that can impact patient care and public trust. Financial conflicts, such as industry sponsorship, and nonfinancial conflicts, like positive publication bias, can influence research outcomes and reporting. Disclosure of conflicts is essential for transparency and maintaining integrity. While there are ongoing efforts such as self-reporting systems, the discrepancies highlight the need for improved disclosure standards. Academic institutions and journals must prioritize conflict disclosure to uphold research integrity and public trust. The consequences of undisclosed conflicts can jeopardize patient safety and tarnish the reputation of biomedical research.
This chapter will provide a comprehensive overview of conflicts of interest in biomedical research, emphasizing the importance of transparency and ethical conduct to maintain public trust and research integrity.
