Abstract
Evidence-based approaches are of utmost importance in public health delivery. This chapter is divided into two main parts: evidence and public health service delivery. The first part outlines a review of the concept of evidence, including its use in medicine and healthcare and its classification. The efforts of organizations such as the World Health Organization and Cochrane toward supporting evidence-based approaches are also mentioned. The second part focuses on classifying the Essential Public Health Operations (EPHOs), how they inform the selection of the most relevant public health interventions, and how, among those, consideration for core competencies of public health practitioners has informed a selected subgroup of interventions. In addition, this chapter will be linking these EPHOs with pharmacist-led delivery through multiprofessional collaboration and teams in order to achieve high-quality public health results.
