Abstract

Advanced imaging technologies in gastrointestinal endoscopy allow more details to be seen. High-resolution and high-definition imaging are today standard. Virtual and dye-based chromoendoscopy highlights subtle mucosal and vascular changes, which can be used to predict malignant changes. Cellular and subcellular detail can be seen with endomicroscopy. This technology allows also functional imaging. This review describes the current status and the perspective of these advanced imaging modalities.
