Handbook of Nondestructive Evaluation 4.0

Abstract

Smartphones, tablets, and wearables play a major role in the development of consumer and industrial technology. This chapter will show the potential of using a connected mobile device with the increase in versatility, the enhancement in productivity levels, and the ability to make the latest technology for NDE affordable. It begins with a critical review of the NDE industry and the risks and dangers of standing still while technology advances. The chapter will then analyze current innovations in the consumer market and show how, with simple adaptations, these innovations can be brought to improve the NDE industry, throughout the value chain, and to increase the acceptance and worth of NDE overall and opens the door for new business cases.
