Abstract
Is suicide really preventable? What is our role in suicide prevention and do we really even know what that looks like? As deaths by suicide continue to occur year after year and country by country, it is time the field of suicidology changes course. Despite financial investments in the study and understanding of suicide, treatments and interventions, awareness and education campaigns, and countless programs having been developed, none have provided us a way to significantly reduce the burden of suicide in the world on a sustained basis. It is for these reasons we must all individually and collectively look inward as we change the direction of suicide prevention.
