Abstract

This chapter briefly outlines the history of International Large Scale Assessments (ILSAs) and reflects on the past and current developments in order to give a sound projection of future developments. The chapter takes three distinct perspectives and looks at increased participation in ILSAs, increases in coverage as well as increases in the depth of research centering on ILSA.
