Abstract
Climate change events suggest that while rainfall patterns will change, temperatures will rise. Globally, the possible effect of climate change on roads infrastructure and operations is recognized. Therefore, governments across the globe have prioritized addressing the negative impacts of climate change. The purpose of this chapter is to observe and construct phenomena, with the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality as a case study. The goal is to deepen the awareness of climate change mitigation actions affecting the city’s roads infrastructure. The focus is on issues related to the implementation of mitigation actions related to administrative, public policy and political economy. This chapter is both explanatory and exploratory and intends to explicate the questions of “what and how.” This chapter recommends measures that may assist municipalities in effectively implementing climate change mitigation actions, specifically with regard to the roads infrastructure, and further recommends that climate change effects should be integrated into the planning processes of road authorities as a key feature.
