Handbook on Promoting Social Justice in Education

Abstract

This chapter provides an introspective view of minority women in educational leadership and how their lived experiences intersect within and among educational settings from grades pk-20. It explores the contemporary and historical experience of Black Women in educational leadership using an intersectional and storytelling praxis. The use of first-person narrative is intentional as it amplifies the voice of Black women in the telling of their experiences and combats the auspicious silences in research. This study works to fill gaps in research around Black women in educational leadership and to provide actionable steps to increasing the visibility and numbers of Black women in educational leadership positions.
