Definition
Anti-corporate lobbying refers to campaigning or action against corporations, usually by civil society groups and NGOs. It is based on the idea that corporations’ role in society and their influence over both public policy and social issues – including labor standards and environmental issues – are disproportionately large. Multinational corporations in particular are an important target of anti-corporate lobbying and activism, as the effects of their operations often transcend national boundaries.
There are two main forms of anti-corporate lobbying. The first is lobbying against corporate power in general, whereby groups campaign against the increased role of companies overall and their influence over social issues through their operations, including supply chains and production practices.
