Definition

Sustainability :

The concept was made popular by the World Commission on Environment and Development in a report “Our Common Future,” also known as the “Brundtland Report,” before the United Nations General Assembly in 1987. It officially defined the concept of sustainable development as the kind of development that “meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (Brundtland Report 1987).

The Post-2015 Development Agenda has given prominent recognition to the fact that complex natural and social systems are strongly interconnected, thereby giving an altogether new perspective for development.
