It’s necessary to recognize that tourism and leisure visitors often take part in mixed portfolios of experiential activities that mix nature and culture, and these are not easily or exclusively classified.
Ecocultural tourism is considered a “concept in which ecological and cultural aspects of a landscape are combined to create a site for tourists” (Wallace and Russell 2004: 235). It is understood as a holistic approach in which communities articulate the cultural and ecological resources in the tourism fitment and increase notoriety associated with the values held by the territory, combining the patrimonial dimension, culture, and identity with the didactic dimension and citizen science.
