It is well known that green chemistry and chemical engineering are multidisciplinary fields, and involve many important fields, such as chemistry, material science, engineering, environmental science, biotechnology, and so on. This volume contains 25 interesting chapters, which covers the most areas in green chemistry and chemical engineering. The contents can be classified roughly as following closely related topics.
Green synthetic methods and routes with high atom economy: Exploration of atom-economic, highly selective, and energetically efficient protocols, methods, and reaction routes is the basis for developing green chemistry and technologies, which can transform starting materials effectively to reduce or eliminate waste and save energy, and can provide solutions to many challenging problems in industry. This topic is discussed in chapters “Atom Economy” and “Green Chemistry Metrics: Material Efficiency and Strategic Synthesis Design.”
