Definition

A supply chain network can be defined as a set of interconnected organizations whose different processes and activities produce value (following Slack and Lewis 2011, p. 144), which is closely related to the definition of supply chain (management) by Christopher (2011) defined as the management of “a network of connected and interdependent organisations mutually and cooperatively working together to control, manage and improve the flow of goods and materials and information from suppliers to end users” (p. 19).
