Ridged Band (Europa)

Definition

A band complex that is composed of lineations (ridges and troughs) running subparallel to band margins on Europa (Prockter and Patterson 2009).

Synonyms

Lineated band (Figuerdo and Greeley 2004), not recommended

Note

The term “ridged band” refers to faulted bands in Stempel et al. (2005).

Category

A type of lineated band on Europa.

Description

Lineations run parallel to margins. Generally no central trough is present (Prockter and Patterson 2009) (Fig. 1). Ridged band complexes may be up to 60 km wide.
