Definition/Summary

DNA Replication: A fundamental biological process that is essential for multiplication and growth of living organisms. DNA replication is also the basis for biological inheritance of genetic traits. Some of the general eukaryotic DNA replication processes are conserved in the parasite; but replication process is distinct throughout the complex parasite life cycle due to different cell cycle. Genetic recombination is a process that cells engage in to create genetic variance. The process is also important for DNA repair in living cells and organisms. This review emphasizes the progress made so far in two of these important aspects of DNA metabolism: DNA replication and recombination in the malaria parasite.
