Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a heterogeneous clinical-immunological entity that represents the most common form of human primary immunodeficiency (Bonilla et al. 2016). There are several definitions of CVID. The most frequently used is the definition by the ESID/PAGID from 1999 (Conley et al. 1999) and more recently the definition by the ESID registry (Seidel et al. 2019). Alternative suggestions have been made by the group of R. Ameratunga (Ameratunga et al. 2016).
Definition according to ESID/PAGID criteria 1999 (Conley et al. 1999).
Probable: Male or female patient who has a marked decrease of IgG (at least 2 SD below the mean for age) and a marked decrease in either IgM or IgA and fulfills all of the following criteria:
- (1)
Onset of immunodeficiency at greater than 2 years of age.
- (2)
Absent isohemagglutinins and/or poor response to vaccines.
- (3)
Defined causes of hypogammaglobulinemia have been excluded (incl. drug induced...
