Handbook of Epidemiology

Abstract

Oral diseases are among the most prevalent in the world. This chapter aims to provide an overview of the descriptive epidemiology in relation to the burden and trends of dental caries, periodontal disease, and tooth loss. The analytical epidemiology that has identified the determinants and risk factors of these diseases is reviewed, and the application of epidemiology in relation to the practice of dental public health is discussed.
