Definition
Team approach is a model involving a team of professionals with complementary backgrounds and skills working together toward common goals.
This approach is increasingly advocated by scholars and policy makers as a means of assuring quality of outcomes and quality of work environment.
Comprehensive intervention models for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) require the expertise of professionals from multiple disciplines (e.g., physicians, psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, special educators). International guidelines (Department of Children and Families 2003; Committee on Educational Interventions for Children with Autism 2001; Roberts and Prior 2006) highlight the importance of employing a collaborative approach of teamwork in providing effective intervention for ASD. Family involvement is a key component of a collaborative intervention approach, especially for successful infant-toddler interventions.
