Comprehensive Guide to Autism

Abstract

Melatonin is a neurohormone secreted by the pineal gland. It is synthesized from the amino acid tryptophan and undergoes catabolism in the body. These children commonly have disturbances with their sleep, with the most common being insomnia. Melatonin has been used quite effectively in this subgroup of children; however, optimal dosing is still not clear.
