Relatively flat area between dunes.

Synonyms

Dune valley; Interdune areas filled by a lake are called Dund in India; Interdune horseshoe depressions between barchans or barchanoid ridges, especially where dunes are pressed closely on one another in such a way that the horns of one barchan join with the foot of the leeward dune, are called Fulji in Arabia (Glenn 1979); Open interdune corridors are called Couloir in North Africa

Subtypes

Transverse dune interdunes are classified into two groups (Baddock et al. 2007):

  1. (1)

    Sandy interdunes with closely spaced dunes

  2. (2)

    Extended interdunes where the interdune is considerably longer than the separation length

Description

The interdune corridor (interdune hollow or interdune area) is a continuous flat or gently sloping surface between dune ridges or rows of dunes (Figs. 1 and 2).
