Died: Clear Lake City (Houston), Texas, USA, 6 March 1995

Although Barbara Middlehurst is noted for significant astronomy-related editorial activities, her specialized field of study was transient lunar phenomena [TLP]. Thus, she is mainly remembered for her association with the first chronological catalog of reported observations of such phenomena, published by NASA in 1968 under her signature as well as those of Jaylee Burley (later known as Jaylee Mead, 1929–2012), Patrick Moore, and Barbara Welther.

Born in Wales, Middlehurst, she attended Girton College, Cambridge, where she completed her studies in mathematics. A year after graduating, she returned to teach at her alma mater. In the years following the Second World War, during which she had served as an ambulance driver, she became increasingly interested in astronomy, eventually deciding to pursue a career in that discipline.
