Protein Structures
Proteins are biological compounds composed of a long chain of amino acids, connected to each other through their carbon-alpha atoms and have a 3D shape resulting from the protein folding process. Proteins are usually described by means of four structures (Lesk 2001): the primary structure, the secondary structure, the tertiary structure and the quaternary structure. Each structure captures a particular conformational property of the protein and helps understand its behavior.
