The HUPO Proteomics Standards Initiative (PSI) defines community standards for data representation in proteomics to facilitate data comparison, exchange, and verification. The main organizational unit of the Proteomics Standards Initiative is the work group. Currently, there are the following work groups: Protein Separation (PS), Mass Spectrometry (MS), Molecular Interactions (MI), Protein Modifications (MOD), and Proteomics Informatics (PI). The HUPO-PSI has published minimum information standards, data formats in all these fields and is working closely with databases and journals to encourage their widespread implementation (Orchard and Hermjakob 2011).
