Definition

A metabolic profile is a quantitative characterization of the metabolic state of a cell or organism at one time point or a series of sequential time points. It consists of multiple concentration measurements, which may be obtained, for instance, with methods of in vivo nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) or mass spectrometry (MS).
