\kyü\ n {often capitalized, often attributive} Symbol, in electronics, for the ratio of the reactance to the resistance of an oscillatory circuit, and then often called the quality factor of the circuit. Q/2π = the ratio of energy stored to energy dissipated per cycle. A closely analogous measure applies to mechanical oscillating systems and, when the system is oscillating at or near its resonant frequency, Q is proportional to that frequency.
