Short Biography

Liane Holliday Willey, Ed.D. (born 1959), is a best-selling an American author, educator and public speaker. She was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome in 1996. She coined the term “Aspie” in her 1999 autobiography, Pretending to be Normal: Living with Asperger Syndrome. Dr. Willey has authored several other internationally best-selling books, all published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers, including Asperger Syndrome in Adolescence: Living with the Ups, the Downs and Things in Between and Asperger Syndrome in the Family: Redefining Normal. Her latest book is Safety Skills for Asperger Women: How to Save a Perfectly Good Female Life (2011).

Dr. Willey has contributed to many additional books and journals and is currently the senior editor for Autism Spectrum Quarterly. In addition to her numerous interviews on national and international television and radio, her life story was an inspiration for the film Normal Folk, currently in preproduction, and the feature film Adam,...
