Definition
A psychologist is a professional who has earned a doctoral degree in psychology at a regionally accredited university or professional school. Some psychologists are primarily involved in conducting research and contributing to the scientific body of knowledge in psychology, while others use this scientific knowledge in applied settings. Psychologists work in several different work sectors, including clinical practice settings, academic and research settings, and consultation to apply psychological principles in private or public industries. Major settings in which psychologists work include universities and medical schools, private practice, clinics and counseling centers, industry and government, hospitals, and school districts.
