Basic Biographical Information
Eugène Dubois (full name: Marie Eugène François Thomas Dubois), born January 28, 1858, Eijsden, Netherlands, died December 16, 1940, estate “De Bedelaer,” Netherlands. Dutch anatomist and geologist, discoverer of the first-known fossils of Homo erectus (“Java Man”) on the island of Java in the Dutch East Indies (Fig. 1).
